Oaks is a small academy with approximately 160 pupils on roll and an additional 21 pupils in our nursery. We are very proud of our school and of the hard work and positive attitude of all our pupils and staff.

Teaching areas are safe and well maintained, providing a stimulating working environment for pupils. We are continually striving to improve our facilities in order to enrich our pupils’ experiences.

The teachers and support staff form a very strong team and work closely with the governing body and Leigh Academies Trust to promote high standards throughout the academy. Parents provide invaluable voluntary support across the academy and there is a well-established parent-teacher association (PTA), which undertakes a programme of fundraising activities throughout the year.

Our curriculum meets all the requirements of the national curriculum but is arranged around inquiries into six different transdisciplinary themes. Leigh Academy Oaks is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), with the intention of pursuing authorisation as an IB World School.

Curriculum Mission Statement

The Oaks curriculum is delivered within relevant and purposeful contexts, is built upon prior learning, and is designed to be challenging, interesting and motivational to all pupils. We aim to create inquiring, lifelong learners who respect and care for the world they live in and all those who live in it. Oaks learners will understand how they are connected to the world in order to take action to improve their own lives, and the lives of local and global communities.

Our learning community strives to create chances for dreamers, idea-generators and innovators. We hope to empower our pupils to use their skills as divergent thinkers, responsible role models and leaders to carve out their own futures and to become extraordinary citizens.

We set high expectations for all our pupils. Practitioners give every child the opportunity to experience success in their learning by providing a relevant and challenging curriculum.
